Objective:

The objective of this lab is to bring the system up-to-date and install a few packages. Also understand transient and persistent settings.

What to do

  1. Become root.

    su -

  2. Check the settings of /etc/apt/sources.list
    • Make a backup of /etc/apt/sources.list first.

      cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.original

    • Delete the two lines containing the word cdrom.
    • Add contrib non-free to the list of packages
    • So your /etc/apt/sources.list should look like this:

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free
      deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free

      deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye-updates main contrib non-free
      deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye-updates main contrib non-free

      deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye/updates main contrib non-free
      deb-src http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye/updates main contrib non-free
